At least 60 people died in one day in Pakistan due to heavy rain that fell for 24 hours.
According to the Pakistani daily Dawn and other sources on the 17th (local time), the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan announced that 63 people died and 290 people were injured in the Punjab province. Most of the deaths were caused by house collapses, torrential downpours, and electric shocks due to the heavy rain.
Punjab, which means 'five rivers', is the most populous region in Pakistan, and heavy rain has continued since the morning of the 16th. In Rawalpindi, near the capital Islamabad, the water level rose rapidly, leading to an evacuation order.

In some areas, 400mm of rain fell for 10 hours, causing flooding in the city center and ongoing rescue operations. Pakistani authorities have deployed military helicopters and other rescue operations. Pakistan suffers from flood damage during the monsoon season from June to September every year, and this year, the damage is expected to be even greater as the rainy season is expected to be longer and the amount of rainfall is expected to be higher than usual. Since the end of June, the cumulative number of deaths nationwide has been around 180, more than half of whom are children.

In 2022, Pakistan also suffered large-scale flood damage, with one-third of the country submerged and over 1,700 people killed.

“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:15)
We hear the tragic news that 63 people have died and 290 have been injured in the Punjab region of Pakistan, and that evacuation orders were issued in Rawalpindi near the capital Islamabad due to the rapid rise of river levels.
Lord, amid the severe damage caused by extreme weather in Pakistan and many other places, we see that the return of the Lord is drawing near. Please encounter many souls in Pakistan who are grieving the loss of their possessions, livestock, homes, and beloved children. Be their hope and gently heal their broken hearts.
In such horrific situation, where more than half of the 180 confirmed deaths are children, we ask that You protect the next generation of Pakistani children. Let the leadership of Pakistan repent first, and may You grant them heavenly wisdom so that effective disaster responses and child protection measures can be discussed and implemented.
Let the Pakistani Church reach out to those who have lost everything in this natural disaster and share with them the gospel of hope that empowers them to live again. As they rebuild the ruins of their homes, let them testify to the grace of Jesus Christ, who gives life even today, so that the souls of Pakistan may rise again.
Although in 2022, one-third of the country was submerged and over 1,700 people lost their lives, the response of the Pakistani government has not changed. Let the global Church raise its voice over this, and continue rescue efforts to save even one more life — through financial support and intercessory prayer.
May Pakistan recover from this disaster swiftly and see the nearness of the Kingdom of God. Let over 100 ethnic groups in Pakistan rise up with the gospel, prepare the way for the Lord and become the final weapon of the gospel. Let us surely witness the fulfillment of the FM 1% Vision among the people of Pakistan!
