With Pakistan announcing future retaliation after being attacked by India's missiles for the first time in 6 years, attention is focused on the level of counterattack.
Experts predicted that while the two 'de facto nuclear powers' are refraining from an all-out war, the future situation could change in an instant depending on Pakistan's response.
According to CNN and BBC on the 8th (local time), when India launched 'Operation Sindoor' to attack 9 terrorist bases in Pakistani Kashmir the previous morning, Pakistan immediately responded.
The Pakistani military also fired missiles at India and announced that it would choose the time and place to retaliate against India with appropriate means.
According to the national death toll announced by both countries, 43 people have died in the clash so far.
Pakistan said 31 civilians were killed and 57 injured in the Indian airstrikes and clashes along the Line of Actual Control (LoC), while India said 12 civilians were killed and 57 injured in Pakistani artillery fire.
CNN predicted that Pakistan's future response will determine whether the two countries will find a way out of this local war and turn the situation around or whether it will escalate into a more serious standoff.
With the international community also urging the two countries to refrain from an all-out war, the best scenario would be for Pakistan to use the downing of an Indian fighter jet as a justification for its victory and not retaliate against India.
Pakistan claimed that it shot down five Indian Air Force fighter jets in its airspace the previous day, including three of the latest French-made Rafale fighter jets.
Milan Vaishnav, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, analyzed, “If the claim of shooting down an Indian fighter jet is credible, Pakistan can use it as a basis to declare victory (without retaliation) by saying ‘(India) paid a price’.”
Another scenario is that Pakistan directly launches retaliatory airstrikes at a time and place of its own choice, as mentioned.
In this case, since India has attacked not only Pakistani Kashmir but also the densely populated Punjab state, Pakistan is likely to attack major Indian cities as well.
Tanvi Madan, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, said, “Since India has targeted Pakistani Punjab, Pakistan can also respond ‘on equal footing.’” He added, “General Asim Munir, the chief of Pakistani Army, is known to be much more hardline than his predecessor, which could escalate the conflict.”
Dr. Ejaz Hussain, a military expert from Pakistan, also told the BBC that "given the Pakistani military's willingness to retaliate, there is a possibility that they will retaliate with 'surgical strikes' across the border in the coming days," and expressed concern that "it could escalate into a limited conventional war."
However, since India has warned that "if Pakistan's next action crosses the line, we will retaliate immediately," there are also observations that even if Pakistan actually counterattacks, it may limit the level to some extent.

"Based on Pakistan's statements so far, the response is likely to be cautious and limited," Madan said, adding that "both countries know that if it escalates into an all-out war, both countries have more to lose than to gain."

Many were my adversaries, but he saved my life in the battle against me and gave me peace (Psalm 55:18)
God,
Seeing the situation where armed conflict has broken out between the peoples of India and Pakistan for the first time in six years, we pray for peace and salvation for the two peoples.
As the end times come, many people are in fear and worry due to the history of countless wars and conflicts between peoples, and the armed conflict between India and Pakistan among mankind. Lord, please prevent this conflict from escalating into an all-out war. Do not let us kill each other and fall into anger and pain, and do not let us seek vain hope in this world where there is no hope anymore.
Our only hope is you, Lord. In the name of Yeshua, the only name that can save us, may India and Pakistan unite in peace.
Lord, remember the countless souls in the Kashmir region and the souls of both countries who are still trembling with anxiety, and may they be saved not only in their physical lives but also in their spiritual lives, and may they attain eternal peace.
True life is needed among these people.
Lord, may the gospel be spread faster than the news of death, and may the two nations rise up with the hope of the eternal kingdom of God and heaven.
Also, may the churches of the two nations of India and Pakistan not remain silent, but may they rise up fervently in prayer, offer this armed conflict situation to the Lord, and may they become churches that unite in the Holy Spirit and endure the spiritual war together.
In this way, may the churches of India and Pakistan achieve a history of reversal and victory in the presence of the Holy Spirit, and may the precious work of life explode as countless souls return to the Lord!
