As the military conflict between Israel and Iran throws Iran into significant turmoil, Pakistan is increasingly worried that the Iranian government may lose control over separatist armed groups active near its border, Reuters reported on the 19th (local time).
Pakistan shares a 900-kilometer western border with Iran. This region corresponds to Pakistan’s Balochistan Province, the country’s largest by area. Although rich in natural resources like natural gas, oil, and minerals, it is also considered the poorest region in Pakistan.
Historically, Balochistan was once part of the Khanate of Kalat, a semi-autonomous kingdom within British India. After Pakistan gained independence from Britain, the region was annexed. Since then, the Baloch people—a major ethnic group in the area—have engaged in armed struggles demanding independence.
The Pakistani government claims that these groups maintain bases in Iran, crossing the border to carry out various terrorist attacks within Pakistan.
Now, with Iran in disarray, Islamabad fears that a power vacuum could emerge in the border area, creating a more favorable environment for these rebel groups.
Experts explain that this concern may have been the reason why Pakistan’s top military leader, General Asim Munir, met with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on the 18th to discuss the Iran issue and promise cooperation. Pakistan does not want to see Iran fall into deeper chaos.

Pakistan is also concerned that various armed groups in Balochistan might use the current instability to form a larger, more unified force.
These groups could unite and pursue a movement to create an independent state by merging the Balochistan regions of Iran and Pakistan.
On the 13th, Iranian jihadist militant group Jaish-al-Ahrar, operating in Pakistan, issued a statement saying, "We extend the hand of brotherhood and friendship to all the Iranian people, and especially to the Balochistan people and militants, to join the ranks of resistance."
Simbal Khan, a Pakistani international affairs expert, stated that this unrest could give rise to a "Greater Balochistan Movement,” warning, “If that happens, they will all want to fight together.”

“Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Psalm 118:5–6)
God, we hear that while Iranian government’s control has weakened because of the conflict between Israel and Iran, the separatists armed groups may become active along the Pakistani and Iranian border.
They are armed and fighting to achieve the long-cherished dream of independence for Balochistan. Yet Lord, show them that terrorism and violent struggle cannot bring about the true freedom they long for. Grant them the grace to find freedom in Your truth, and send gospel messengers into Balochistan to proclaim Your Word.
Various armed groups within Balochistan are now joining forces in a movement to integrate the Iranian and Pakistani regions of Balochistan into one and establish an independent nation. They are urging not only the Baloch people in Pakistan but also Iranian citizens to join this cause.
As the Iranian government is being shaken, may the people of Balochistan and Iran not seek the land of the flesh that will perish when the Lord returns but seek the eternal Kingdom of God! Guide them to pursue the fulfillment of Your covenant.
Holy Spirit, strengthen the churches in Pakistan and Iran to boldly proclaim the gospel—even to the armed groups. Help them witness that the only one who hears their cries, answers them, and helps them amid discrimination and poverty is the living Jehovah God.
Grant those who preach the gospel in Balochistan unwavering faith to endure any suffering, and let them witness the mighty works of God—far beyond human understanding—until Balochistan receives Jesus Christ, the true King of Peace.
Soon, may the people of Balochistan, Pakistan, and Iran become a people who strive to proclaim the message of peace and salvation to all nations!
May all the peoples of Persia rise up in the last days as the final instruments of the gospel—an army ready to engage in the ultimate spiritual battle for the return of our Lord!
