Myanmar rebels announced on the 21st that they had captured the military's western command.
According to AFP, Myanmar's ethnic minority armed group the Arakan Army (AA) claimed to have completely taken over its western command after two weeks of fierce fighting with military forces in Rakhine State, which borders Bangladesh.
The Arakan Army continues to launch offensives against the military, with the goal of achieving independence and autonomy for Rakhine State.
Rakhine state, located along the coast of the Bay of Bengal, has large offshore natural gas reserves and pipelines transporting oil and gas to China, but is classified as one of the poorest regions in Myanmar.
In this area, where the majority of the Muslim minority Rohingya live, rebel offensives have been intensifying since November last year after a ceasefire between the Arakan Army and the military broke down.

Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. (John 12:25)
We hear that the Arakan Army, an ethnic armed group in Myanmar, has taken full control of the Western Command after two weeks of fighting with military forces in western Myanmar's Rakhine State.
Lord, please have mercy on the souls of the Arakan Army as they go to war against the Myanmar military to gain independence and autonomy for Rakhine State, even though many have lost their lives.
May the hope of obtaining the eternal kingdom of God, not a land that will one day disappear, be poured out upon the souls of the Arakan Army. May You send among them those who will preach the gospel and lead them to freedom through the truth.
As the Arakan Army prepares to lay down their lives for the Lord, may the Holy Spirit pour out vision and enable them to serve Myanmar and the nations as God's vanguard.
Also, many Rohingya are fleeing because the Buddhist-majority Arakan Army is persecuting the Muslim minority for their religion.
We ask that the people who will share the gospel with the lost Rohingya, who do not know where to go, they will met and the gospel will be planted and take root among other ethnic minorities in Myanmar.
Send forth from among the global church, those who will minister to the Rohingya people with this gospel so that they may reap a 30, 60, and 100-fold harvest.
And let all the ethnic minorities in Myanmar rise up and give their lives to You, so that they may become a nation that expands Your Kingdom along the ASEAN Highway!
