[Today’s Prayer] Magnitude 7.4 earthquake strikes off North Maluku, Indonesia… 0.6m tsunami observed in nearby areas

A major magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred off the coast of North Maluku, Indonesia, and a tsunami warning was issued for a time.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) on the 2nd, at 7:48 a.m. on the 2nd, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred in the waters off North Maluku, Indonesia. The epicenter was at 0.17 degrees north latitude and 126.28 degrees east longitude, and the depth of the earthquake was 35 km.

Rahmat Riyono, head of the Earthquake and Tsunami Information Division at BMKG, said, “Because the focal depth is only about 30 km, it shows the characteristics of a typical shallow offshore earthquake and may have a greater impact on coastal areas.”

He added, “We are continuously monitoring the possibility of aftershocks, changes in tsunami wave height, and whether there is additional damage,” and urged residents in coastal areas to strictly follow the safety guidelines of the authorities.

Lord, we hear the news that a magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck Indonesia, and that tsunamis have occurred in at least five regions of Indonesia.

So far, there are no official reports of casualties or building damage, but it is believed that coastal areas may be more heavily affected, and additional damage is being continuously monitored.

God, please protect the people of Indonesia so that there will be no further damage. May we forever shout for joy and delight in you because of your grace that is with us.

May the souls in Indonesia, who are in fear due to earthquakes and tsunamis that may come at any time, take refuge in you. When they take refuge in you, let them become people who know what it means to rejoice in God.
