[Today's Prayer] Israeli Cabinet to Vote on Phase 1 of Gaza Ceasefire Agreement

The Israeli cabinet is scheduled to vote on the first phase of a ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip on the 9th (local time), according to the Times of Israel, Reuters, and the Associated Press.

The Israeli government announced in a statement that it plans to vote on the "plan to release all Israeli hostages" at 6 p.m. that day. Even if some far-right members of the cabinet vote against it, the majority is expected to vote in favor.

The Israeli Security Cabinet is reportedly scheduled to meet an hour earlier to discuss the agreement signed in Egypt that morning.

The ceasefire will only take effect once the cabinet ratifies the agreement and confirms the list of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and other targets for exchange.

If the agreement is approved, Israeli troops must withdraw from designated areas of the Gaza Strip within 24 hours. Hamas must release the living hostages within 72 hours, and the bodies of the dead hostages will be returned in stages thereafter.

Reuters reported that an Israeli government spokesperson also explained, "A ceasefire will be reached within 24 hours of the cabinet meeting," and "Once these 24 hours have elapsed, a 72-hour deadline for Hamas to release the hostages will begin."
