[Today’s Prayer] Iranian President Warns of “Severe Water Crisis”… Even Tehran’s Capital Water Supply at Risk

ree

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on the 10th (local time) that the capital Tehran and other parts of the country are facing a “severe water shortage crisis.”

According to semi-official Fars News Agency, the president met with executives from several Iranian media outlets in Tehran that day and discussed various measures the Iranian government is adopting to combat the water crisis.

President Pezeshkian stated that the government is working around the clock to bring water from the source of the Taleqan Dam near Tehran into the city, with plans to supply sufficient water throughout this autumn season.

However, he added that with annual rainfall in the capital region having decreased by as much as 45% this year, it is still uncertain whether such efforts will be enough to resolve Tehran’s water crisis.

State-run IRIB News also reported on the 10th that Iran’s dams currently hold only about 42% of their total storage capacity.

According to the report, since the start of the current water (management) year on September 22, 2024, the total inflow into all dams nationwide has amounted to only 23.56 billion cubic meters (bcm).

On the 9th, Mohammad-Taqi Hosseinzadeh, CEO of Zone 5 of the Tehran Water and Wastewater Company, stated at a press conference in Tehran that the city’s dam water inflow would only last until the end of September, urging citizens to reduce their water consumption.

The Iran Water Resources Management Company (IWRM) announced that this water shortage stems from an “unprecedented” extreme drought that has struck across Iran since the start of the current water management year.

In response to the shortage, Iranian authorities have until now resorted to short-term measures such as closing government offices and reducing working hours in affected cities — but experts say these measures have reached their limit.

“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

God, we see with heavy hearts that Iran is suffering almost daily from war, severe drought, protests within the country, and many other problems. We pray that the global church will join together in prayer for Iran.

Lord, have mercy on the Iranian people and deliver them quickly from the many problems and pains that surround them. Through these trials, may the souls of Iran who still do not know our eternal Savior, Jesus Christ, come to know the true truth and return to You.

Though the current reality in Iran is filled with hardships and suffering, at this time — when the nation of Iran, chosen and used by God in history, is witnessing an unprecedented revival of the gospel — we ask that You once again perform Your marvelous works through the Iranian people!

We hope that this time of suffering will become a turning point that draws the Iranian people closer to Jesus. Cover the remaining Christians in Iran with the power of the Holy Spirit so that the gospel of life may spread more quickly to every soul in the country.

Let strong churches be established across Iran that the gates of hell cannot prevail against, and through the Iranian church, may an army of Jesus Christ rise up throughout the Persian region, carrying the gospel to all nations and even to Jerusalem.

Just as You once restored Israel through the kings of Persia, continue that same will to prepare the way for the return of Jesus, and raise up Iran as a holy nation that restores God’s kingdom among all nations in these last days!
