[Today's Prayer] "Iranian female college student arrested for protesting 'hijab crackdown' in underwear"

It has been reported that an Iranian female college student was arrested for protesting the hijab crackdown on school campuses in her underwear.

On the 2nd (local time), a 2-minute and 39-second video of a woman walking around in her underwear in broad daylight on the campus of the Islamic Azad University of Sciences in Tehran, the capital of Iran, was spread on social media such as X (X, formerly Twitter).

A netizen who posted the video explained, "This student did not back down despite being harassed by the moral police (Gasht-e Ershad) for wearing an inappropriate hijab," and "She marched around the campus in her underwear."

Another netizen wrote, "The moral police attacked and tore the woman's clothes because her hair was visible under her hijab," and "She stood in the square in her underwear to protest."

The university confirmed that a crackdown was conducted on the student, but insisted that there was no assault by the moral police.

The Islamic Azad University explained, "The campus security guards took action against the student who committed an obscene act on campus and then referred her to the judicial authorities," Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported.

In 2022, nationwide anti-government protests erupted in Iran after a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, was arrested for not wearing the hijab properly and died under suspicious circumstances.

In July of this year, Masoud Pezeshkian, a moderate and reformist politician who had pledged to ease the crackdown on hijab wearing, took office as the new president, but the crackdown on hijab remains controversial.

Hijab refers to a scarf worn by women in Islamic countries. The hijab usually covers the head, neck, shoulders, and chest, but leaves the face exposed.

Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved fellow worker and Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier, and the church in your house: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philemon 1:1-3)

In 2022, the Iranian government's crackdown on hijab continued after the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for not wearing the hijab properly. We hear news that a female student from Islam Azad University, who had her clothes torn for not wearing the hijab properly, protested wearing only her underwear.

For the past two years, Iranian women have been protesting by taking to the streets, being arrested and killed, and not wearing the hijab, but this has not been a hot topic, and now the Iranian hijab protests have become known overseas. Lord, please have mercy on them.

Please let the whole world know the evil of Islam, which treats women as mere possessions and says that showing off the hair that God created is obscene and a reason for violence.

On the contrary, we remember that the church of Christ, from the early days of the church, has established women as disciples with Paul and devoted themselves to the expansion of the kingdom of God.

We believe that only our Lord Jesus Christ can give Iranian women grace and peace.

May the chains of falsehood that have bound our Iranian sisters be broken in the name of the Lord Jesus, and may the yoke that has silenced our sisters be removed with the truth of the gospel, so that Iranian women may enjoy true freedom in Christ Jesus!

May the Iranian church actively step forward to serve them, and may the Lord's grace, which allows them to serve not by gender but by gifts, flow through Iranian women to their families and all of Iran.

Therefore, may the Iranian women become disciples of Jesus Christ, and may they be prepared as holy brides for the bridegroom Jesus who will return, and may they serve the nations!
