(Today’s Prayer) Iran's severe drought has caused water levels at its largest dam to drop, halting power production

Iran has halted power production due to low water levels at its largest dam caused by severe drought, AFP reported, citing state-run news agency IRNA.

According to IRNA, Amir Mahmoudi, the director of the Karkeh Dam and its hydroelectric power plant, said the dam's current water capacity is 1 billion cubic meters and its water level is 180 meters, 40 meters below the optimal level for power generation. He said he released water through a valve at the bottom of the dam to ensure that residents living downstream of the Karkeh River could use it even after the power generation was cut off.

The drought Iran is currently experiencing is one of the worst in the 60 years since modern meteorological records began being kept regularly, AFP explained.

Iranian state media has reported in recent weeks that rainfall in Iran this year has fallen by 90% compared to the long-term average.

Water levels in reservoirs that supply water to many states have fallen to record lows, and residents in many areas are praying for rain.

Iranian authorities are attempting to artificially create rain by spraying chemicals into clouds to combat drought, while also periodically implementing water cuts to manage water consumption.

Iran, a country traditionally not prone to rainfall, has suffered chronic droughts and heatwaves in recent years, a trend that is expected to worsen due to climate change, AFP reported.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (1 Peter 3:9)

We hear that Iran is suffering from its worst drought in 60 years, with residents in many regions even praying for rain.

God, have mercy on Iran, suffering from drought following the economic hardship that has persisted since the war with Israel. Comfort the weary hearts of the Iranian people, exhausted by the prolonged drought and economic crisis. Send rain swiftly to Iran so that the drought may be alleviated to some degree.

There are Iranian residents who have been praying and relying on God for years due to the persistent drought. Lord, Iran is attempting artificial rainmaking and implementing water rationing to address the drought, but let them know that it is not other scientific technology, but You alone who resolves and governs all these circumstances.

Use the Iranian church to make people rely on the Lord, our Creator, especially in such circumstances. May the Iranian church become a beacon to the Iranian people, proclaiming that Jesus desires Iran to endure patiently and come to repentance. May they turn to Jesus in repentance, no longer relying on other false gods. May they lift up all the problems afflicting Iran—drought, economic hardship, and every other issue—entirely to the Lord in prayer.

May the global church also pray with Jesus' heart, refusing to abandon even one soul in Iran, that the Iranian people may repent and become a nation awaiting the Lord's coming. May Iran become a nation trusting in the Lord's promises and looking toward God's kingdom.

May the Iranian people become a nation not fixated on the painful realities afflicting them, but one awaiting the Lord's return and proclaiming His blessed news among all nations!
