[Today's Prayer] Iran executes 9 ISIS members for 'attempting domestic infiltration terrorism'

Iranian media reported that the Iranian government executed 9 members of the Islamic State (ISIS), an Islamic extremist group, who were convicted of terrorism.

According to Al Jazeera, the Jerusalem Post, and others, Iran's state-run Mizan News Agency reported on the 10th (local time) that "the hanging of the 9 people was carried out after the Supreme Court's ruling."

The executed people were found guilty of armed rebellion, terrorism, illegal possession of weapons, and attempting 'war against God' under Iran's criminal law, the agency explained.

The people arrested by the Revolutionary Guard on the western border of Iran in January 2018 were investigated for planning to infiltrate Iran and commit terrorism in civilian areas.

The Revolutionary Guard seized 1 machine gun, 50 grenades, a thermal imaging camera, and a large amount of ammunition at the time of their arrest. During the fighting, three Revolutionary Guards and several ISIS members were killed.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the 2017 Tehran parliament shooting, the 2018 Khuzestan parade shooting, and the 2024 Revolutionary Guards commander memorial bombing.

The Associated Press reported that with the fall of the pro-Iran Bashar Assad regime in Syria last year, there are also predictions that ISIS, which had its base in eastern Syria, may be making a comeback.
