As persecution and violence against Christians in India continue to intensify, protests are being organized in response.
According to Christian Today UK (CT), the National Christian Front (NCF), the All India Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation (BAMCEF), and Bharat Mukti Morcha have called on churches and Christian leaders across the country to join a protest on June 9 (local time).
The NCF emphasized solidarity with Christians and marginalized groups in India, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Castes.
In addition to various tribal and caste groups, the National Muslim Front also expressed support, stating, "All minorities must unite against Hindu extremists."
Currently, the Indian government is led by the Hindu nationalist party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported that "BJP’s actions have contributed to a rise in violence against minorities."
Meenakshi Ganguly, HRW’s Deputy Director for Asia, said, "The BJP government’s discriminatory and divisive policies have led to increased violence against minorities, widespread fear, and the suppression of critics."
She continued, "Instead of holding human rights violators accountable, the authorities have chosen to punish the victims and persecute anyone who questions these actions."
Christian Today noted, “This rally aims to demonstrate the strength of Christianity against the ruling BJP and to call for justice and unity.”
The Odisha branch of the NCF stated, “Our Christian brothers and sisters are enduring brutal attacks, and the intolerance of antisocial elements is growing. This is not just a Christian issue—it is a serious matter concerning humanity, peace, and the values enshrined in our Constitution.”
“But now thus says the Lord,he who created you, O Jacob,he who formed you, O Israel:‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you;I have called you by name, you are mine.’” (Isaiah 43:1)
Loving Lord, we hear the news that Christians in India are holding a nationwide protest against persecution. Please comfort those who have suffered for their faith in India with Your love, and protect those who are participating in this protest.
As those who have been treated as the lowest caste gather together for this protest, may the love of Jesus alone comfort their pain and suffering. Let the Indian Church lead the way in comforting the hearts of the discriminated and marginalized with the gospel and the love of Jesus, and in guiding their lives toward Him.
May the gospel of life be preached among the hundreds of millions in India who still do not know Jesus and worship 330 million Hindu gods. Please send more messengers to proclaim the gospel.
We believe that You, Lord, have called India by name. Help them look to You, their Creator and Savior, to cast off fear and step forward boldly.
May India respond to Your call, rise up as a nation to fulfill the Great Commission, and bring the gospel to the ends of the earth!
Let one million missionaries rise from India!
