[Today's Prayer] Hamas in Direct Negotiations with the US: "Ready to Transfer Government if War Ends"

A high-ranking official from the Palestinian armed group Hamas, which is negotiating directly with the US without Israel, drew attention by mentioning the possibility of giving up control of the Gaza Strip.

According to Sky News on the 15th (local time), Bassem Naim, a senior official of the Hamas Political Bureau, said in an interview with the media outlet, "We have once again told the US that we are ready to transfer the government immediately if this war ends."

Hamas has been ruling the Gaza Strip for a long time since winning the last Palestinian general election in 2006, and this suggests that they are willing to step down if peace is achieved in a way they can accept.

Naim also stated that talks with the US are ongoing and that they are sharing the proposed agreement through mediators and directly through some members of the Donald Trump administration. He said Hamas had called for "hostage exchange, full withdrawal of Israeli troops, allowing relief supplies into Gaza, and reconstruction of Gaza without forced relocation."

Hamas then accepted Egypt's proposed peace plan, saying the proposal "talks about forming a Palestinian independent organization that would govern Gaza, politically independent."
