Motorbike drivers, who are considered one of the pillars of Indonesian public transportation, staged large-scale protests across Indonesia as they demanded improved treatment.
According to the Daily Kompas and other media outlets on the 21st, thousands of motorbike drivers from Gojek, a ride-sharing service of Indonesia's largest tech company GoTo, and Grab, the largest ride-sharing company in Southeast Asia, took to the streets in the capital city of Jakarta the day before, riding their motorcycles and waving flags to protest.
They wore their work uniforms, green jackets and helmets, and gathered near the presidential palace, the National Assembly building, and the Ministry of Transport building, waving flags and signs and demanding, "Improve unfair and exploitative corporate policies."
According to the protesters, they worked an average of 10-12 hours a day, but their average income was only 100,000-150,000 rupiah (about 8,440-12,660 won), and they claimed that this was because platform companies were taking a large amount of commissions.
According to current regulations, platform companies can only take up to 20% of the fare as commission, but the protesters claimed that companies sometimes take more than that, and that "there are no sanctions in the regulations, and the government is always lukewarm toward companies."
They also demanded that the government guarantee that drivers can receive 90% of the fare.

God is the only judge, he humbles one and exalts another. (Psalm 75:7)
We hear that Indonesian motorbike drivers are protesting for better treatment due to their low income compared to their 10-12 hours of work per day.
This is because the motorcycle platform company is taking fees above the standard, so please help the government to quickly return all systems to normal so that the motorcycle drivers, who are also the heads of households, can receive compensation for their labor.
We believe that the merciful Lord hears the voices of the motorcycle drivers who are being wronged and considers the lives of those who are in economic poverty.
Please break the spirit of selfishness that has caused this situation, and make Indonesia a society where people receive fair compensation for their sweat and hard work!
Also, in a society full of absurdity and injustice, may the Indonesian church fulfill its role as the light and salt of God as children of God.
May they become saints who demonstrate and live out the order of the kingdom of God in their lives, so that they can accept Jesus Christ as the truth.
So that countless Indonesians can experience the blessing of meeting Jesus through the Indonesian church.
Also, through the ASEAN churches praying for Indonesia and all the global churches, may the Lord's justice and righteousness flow like water in this land!
May God personally come as King and rule in this country!
So that the Indonesians may rise up as disciples who serve only Jesus Christ as King and prepare the way for the Lord's return!
