[Today's Prayer] Death Toll from ‘Indonesia Floods and Landslides’ Rises to 225… Over 100 Missing

The death toll from recent floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains on the Indonesian island of Sumatra has surpassed 200.

According to DPA and Associated Press on the 29th (local time), Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency announced that at least 225 people have died and over 500 others have been injured in three provinces due to floods and landslides that occurred in northern Sumatra following recent heavy rains.

In West Sumatra, over 3,900 households have taken refuge in temporary shelters, and in Aceh, a bridge connecting the capital Banda Aceh to the southern region collapsed.

In some areas, roads and communication networks have been cut off, and a lack of heavy equipment is hindering rescue efforts.

Authorities are even deploying aircraft to deliver relief supplies to heavily affected areas, including Tapanuli District in central North Sumatra.

Father God, we hear the tragic news that heavy rains in Indonesia have caused floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra, killing 225 people and injuring over 500.

Please have mercy on the souls of Indonesia who are enduring indefinitely, as bridges connecting the region collapse, roads and communications are cut off, and rescue efforts are impossible due to a lack of heavy equipment.

With Your love and Word, please comfort the broken hearts of those in Indonesia who have lost their homes and families to the floods and landslides. Heal those injured by being crushed and pushed under collapsed structures, so that they may recover quickly.

Above all, please let the heavy rains cease and the ground harden, so that roads can be restored and communication lines can be quickly reestablished. With land routes cut off and rescue methods limited, we pray that the relief supplies may be delivered safely to the flood victims. Grant wisdom to the Indonesian government and leaders so that effective rescue operations may be carried out.

Lord, let the churches in Indonesia take the lead in serving the affected areas, and through comforting and praying for those suffering in Jesus Christ’s name, may Your kingdom be revealed there.

As the Good Shepherd who cares for His flock and provides true help and comfort, may You protect the isolated Indonesian souls through the power and majesty of Jesus Christ, keeping them safe under the care of the Indonesian churches.

Even as many regions across Southeast Asia suffer similar disasters, strengthen the faith of the ASEAN churches, and enable the global Church to serve together with the gospel. Inspire them to pray fervently and advance the gospel boldly throughout Indonesia.
