[Today’s Prayer] At least 63 killed in Boko Haram attack in Nigeria

ree

Local authorities announced on the 6th (local time) that at least 63 people, including residents, were killed in an attack by the Islamic extremist armed group Boko Haram in Borno State, northeastern Nigeria.

According to AFP and other news agencies, Borno Governor Babagana Zulum said that Boko Haram militants attacked the town of Darul Jamal, where a military base is located near the Cameroon border, the previous night, and that five soldiers were among the dead.

Dozens of armed men on motorcycles stormed the village of Darul Jamal around 8:30 p.m. the night before, going from house to house, killing men and setting them on fire, local residents said.

Governor Zulum said the Nigerian military's current troop strength was inadequate to control the situation, adding that local security personnel would be reinforced by the newly created 'Forest Guard'.

In July, the village of Malam Fatori, near the Chad border in Borno state, was attacked by Boko Haram, killing nine people and wounding four.

According to the United Nations, Nigeria's 16-year conflict with jihadists has killed more than 35,000 people and displaced about 2 million.

“Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless[d] I will show my salvation.” (Psalm 50:22-23)

God, we hear the heartbreaking news that in Nigeria, armed members of the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram attacked the village of Darul Jamal, adjacent to a military base, killing male residents in every house and even setting fires, resulting in the deaths of at least 63 residents, including five soldiers.

Despite similar attacks occurring in the village of Fatori last July, Boko Haram's assaults continue unabated. With Nigerian military forces insufficient to control the situation, they must now rely on the Forest Guard for assistance. Lord, protect Nigeria from the attacks of the jihadists.

Reveal the foolishness of Boko Haram, who seek salvation by killing people according to the false laws of Islam, not knowing God. May the Gospel work so that the souls of Nigeria may know that life is more precious than all the world.

God, would you awaken the local churches in Nigeria to rise up in prayer, pleading in the name of Jesus. Though this nation ranks seventh in the world for Christian population, help them repent for the days they forgot God and focused on and relied on things other than the Gospel. May they examine those deeds before the Lord and strive to restore the nation solely through the Gospel.

May Nigerian churches worship the Lord with gratitude alone and proclaim the salvation of Jesus Christ to all nations!

May all of Africa and every nation glorify the Lord through the Nigerian people and experience the salvation of Jesus!
