[Today’s Prayer] At least 200 women and children kidnapped by Islamic extremists in Nigeria

At least 200 women and children who became violent refugees in northeastern Nigeria were kidnapped by Islamic extremists while they were looking for firewood near the border with Chad, the United Nations office in Nigeria announced late on the night of the 6th (local time).

The Gamboru Ngala region of Borno State, where the kidnapping occurred, is a conflict area where movement has been restricted due to recent frequent kidnappings and murders. The victims suffered misfortune after leaving several refugee camps to look for firewood.

Mohammed Paul, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Nigeria, said the kidnappings took place a few days ago but the exact number of people abducted was unknown due to limited access to information in the area, but they were believed to be more than 200.

He added, “An unknown number of elderly women and children under the age of 10 are reported to have been released, but the whereabouts of dozens more are still unknown.”

Locals blamed the kidnappings on Islamic extremist rebels who staged an uprising in Borno in 2009 to stamp out their radical interpretation of Islamic law. At least 35,000 people have died and more than 2 million have become refugees due to violence by forces supported by the armed group Boko Haram and the Islamic State (IS).

Many who have become refugees are staying in the refugee camp in Gamboru Ngala, but due to a lack of relief supplies, refugees are risking their lives by coming out of the camp to get food.

5 For even when we came into Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were afflicted at every turn—fighting without and fear within. 6 But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, (2 Corinthians 7:5-6)

God, we hear the sad news that over 200 refugee women and children have been kidnapped by Islamic extremists in Nigeria.

Under the rule of the false god Allah, many people are deceived by lies and become Islamic extremists and commit violence. As a result, more than 2 million people are suffering from tribulation and fear.

God, please have mercy on them and save them.

Please help dozens of women and children return whose whereabouts are unknown due to kidnapping. May the Lord visit and comfort those who have suffered hardships and are poor in spirit due to the violence of Islamic extremist rebels.

The Lord is the God who comforts the discouraged.

Please help Nigerian refugees find comfort through Jesus, who gave them eternal life by dying on the cross and leading them to a place where there will be no more pain or tears!
