According to Libya's National Meteorological Center, the country's power crisis has become even more severe as temperatures have soared above 50°C (122°F) over the past several days due to an intense heatwave.

A senior executive from the General Electricity Company of Libya stated in an interview with local media that the nationwide blackouts, which began in mid-July, have resulted in the loss of 1,350 megawatts of power generation. Several power plants and transmission lines have already ceased operation.

The electricity company explained that the root cause of the current crisis is a shortage of natural gas and fuel. In addition, technical issues and security-related factors are preventing the stable supply of electricity.

"The Israelites said to the Lord, 'We have sinned. Do with us whatever You think best, but please rescue us today.'" (Judges 10:15)

We hear the news that simultaneous protests have broken out in several parts of Tripoli, the capital of Libya, as people protest the prolonged power outages.

Lord, have compassion on the people of Libya who are living through unbearable heat of over 50°C while enduring long periods without electricity. Have mercy on their weary bodies and troubled hearts.

Above all, we pray that the frustration and anger of those suffering from these power outages would not lead to violence or greater unrest, but that peaceful solutions would be found.

Pour out wisdom for Libya's reconstruction amid its long-standing political instability and economic hardship. May the necessary resources and technical assistance be provided quickly.

Lord, may the church in Libya proclaim Jesus Christ, the Light and the Life, even in the darkness caused by the power outages. May they boldly declare Your salvation and lead many souls to You. As Libya endures this scorching summer, come to its people like cool, living water to refresh hearts that cannot even escape the heat.

May churches around the world share in Libya's burden, working together to help resolve the shortages of natural gas and fuel, as well as the technical and security challenges facing the country. Raise up and send more gospel workers to Libya, opening the way for Libya to become a gateway through which the Maghreb region may be reached with the gospel.

May Libya be transformed from darkness to light and from death to life, so that it may be ready to welcome the glorious day of Your return. Amen.
