Local officials explained that the villagers, who normally make a living by gathering food from the surrounding mountains, entered the cave after discovering unusually colored rocks and sand and wanted to investigate whether there might be gold deposits there.

Thai rescue worker Kaengkard Bongkaewong stated that rescue teams plan to search approximately 20–25 meters deeper into the cave beyond the location where the survivors were found in an effort to locate the remaining two missing individuals.

However, he added that the area remains heavily flooded.

"O Lord, hear my prayer and listen to my cry for mercy. In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me." (Psalm 86:6–7)

Father God, we hear the news that five of the seven villagers who were trapped for about ten days in a flooded cave in Laos have been safely rescued, and that search teams plan to venture even deeper into the cave in search of the remaining two missing individuals.

We thank You for preserving and rescuing these five men. We pray that You would restore their weakened bodies, exhausted from dehydration and lack of food, and strengthen their hearts after this difficult ordeal. Through this experience, may they come to know Your goodness as the God who hears and answers those who cry out to You in times of trouble.

We also ask for Your mercy upon the two individuals who have not yet been found. Though their condition remains unknown, we pray that You would sustain their lives and guide the rescue teams to locate them quickly. Lord, please help them return safely to the embrace of their families.

We pray as well for the people of Laos who travel through mountains and caves each day in order to make a living. Send the church in Laos to these precious souls. May the Lao church boldly go wherever the gospel is needed, seeking out people in the mountains, remote regions, and forgotten villages, proclaiming the love of Jesus Christ and the good news of salvation.

May the global Church also be stirred to pray more fervently for Laos. As believers around the world go forth in prayer and with the gospel, may the people of Laos hear the message of Christ and turn to the Lord.

May the people of Laos come to know You and take up the message of the cross. May they rise up to carry the gospel throughout ASEAN and to all nations, leading many to worship Jesus Christ, our coming King. Amen.
