[Today’s Prayer] A 5-story building under construction suddenly ‘rumbles’… 2 dead, 53 buried in South Africa


A building under construction collapsed in South Africa, killing two people.


According to South African media outlets SABC and AFP on the 6th (local time), authorities in George city, South Africa, rescued 22 people from the collapsed building and announced that two of them had died.

Representative Teresa Jay, who witnessed the scene at the time, said, “I saw a man working, and then there was a ‘boom’ sound and the entire building started to collapse,” adding, “I was mentally shocked. “It’s very sad,” he said.


According to George City spokeswoman Chantel Edwards, 75 construction crews were on site at the time of the collapse. In addition to the 20 people hospitalized and the two who died, the whereabouts of the remaining 50 people have not yet been determined.

On this day, a command post was set up at the scene and rescue work for the missing person continued. Rescue workers said they had sent more sniffer dogs from the capital Cape Town. At the scene, emergency rescue teams were captured searching for people through the collapsed building.
