[Today's Prayer] 5 Dead in Weapons Depot Explosion in Northwestern Syria

ree

A weapons depot exploded in the Idlib region of northwestern Syria, causing casualties.

According to Syrian state news agency SANA and Al-Ikhbariya TV on the 27th (local time), the day before, while residents were harvesting olives at a farm in Kafr Takharim, a city on the outskirts of Idlib, an explosion occurred at a nearby weapons depot, killing 5 people and injuring 10.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a conflict monitoring group, reported that in August, an ammunition depot exploded in the Idlib area, killing at least 4 people.

Idlib and other parts of northwestern Syria were strongholds of the Islamic rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) during the former Bashar al-Assad dictatorship.

Even after HTS leader Ahmed al-Shara took power as interim president following the ousting of Assad in December last year, some armed groups are known to still have bases in the area.

The God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (1 Peter 5:10)

God, we hear the news that a weapons depot exploded in Kafr Takharim on the outskirts of Idlib in northwestern Syria, and residents who were harvesting olives at the time lost their lives and were injured.

As a stronghold of the Islamic rebel group to which the current interim Syrian president Ahmed al-Shara belonged, and where some armed groups are still active, we pray that You will govern the Idlib region, which has suffered this sorrow again after the ammunition depot explosion in August this year that killed at least 4 people.

With some armed groups still having bases in the Idlib area and tensions remaining high, please protect the residents of Idlib and guide the Syrian youth involved in armed groups to hear the gospel and dedicate themselves to the kingdom of God.

May the God of grace dwell among the Syrian people, making them whole and strong. May peace and stability come to the Syrian people soon, and may holy leaders arise who seek Your powerful reign.

Comfort the families of those who lost their lives in the weapons depot explosion in Syria, and heal the souls who still cannot find rest due to the risk of explosions and the trauma of war despite the end of the Syrian civil war. May the Syrian church serve them with the heart of Jesus and the gospel so they may experience the peace given by the Holy Spirit.

For this, may the global church obey the call to share in Syria’s suffering and receive eternal glory. Through the prayers and intercession of the global church, may the Syrian people build a firm foundation for souls who are God’s temple and prepare for the Lord’s return.

Thus, may Syria restore the office of the High Priest of the Arabs and be used as a nation to turn the Arabs and the nations back to God!
