At least 29 people were killed when an immigrant ship bound for Italy sank, the BBC reported on 26 March (local time). According to BBC, they reported that at least 3 people were killed and 29 rescued. The Tunisian Guard said at least 11 people were killed and others rescued when three migrant boats carrying migrants from the sub-Saharan African country sank off the coast of Tunisia bordering the Mediterranean Sea earlier in the day.
Tunisia, which has recently become a key starting point for African migrants trying to reach Europe via the Mediterranean, has sent more than 12,000 migrants to Italian shores this year alone. This is nearly 1,300 times more than during the same period last year. The Tunisian coast guard said earlier in the day that it was taking steps to prevent African migrants from crossing the Mediterranean Sea from Tunisia, blocking more than 4 ships bound for Europe and detaining more than 80,3000 migrants over the past four days.
However, the Italian government announced that 24,2500 migrants from Africa and the Middle East had arrived in the most recent hours. Italian Prime Minister Giorga Meloni, a far-right leader, said there was a growing threat of a huge refugee wave on the country's coast and called for the cooperation of European Union (EU) countries to stop it.
The surge in migrants from Tunisia to Europe is due to increased crackdowns in Libya, where other migrants originate, the BBC reported. Tunisian President Qais Sayed drew criticism from the African Union (AU) and human rights groups for raising conspiracy theories at a National Security Council on 21 March, saying, "Illegal entry into Tunisia from sub-Saharan countries is a criminal act aimed at changing the composition of Tunisia's population."

The sacrifice of the wicked is hated by the Lord, but the prayers of the upright are pleasing to him (Prov. 15:8).
Father, African migrants are risking their lives to be shipped from Tunisia to enter Europe via the Mediterranean, but the sad news death from drowning continue coming one after another.
Lord, would You have mercy on all the African souls who have had unwelcoming circumstances in both Italy, upon arrival, and Tunisia. May the gospel of the cross of Jesus Christ flow to those who have had to leave their homes because they have nowhere to find peace and rest for their souls.
May all hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, who gave His life not for us to perish, but to give us the eternal kingdom of God, and let them have true peace! We ask for Your comfort among the souls who have lost their families in this incident. May Your heart be with them at this moment as they are mourning.
During this Ramadan, may the global church wake up and pray for all African souls who are moving toward death. May any African soul who have been living without hope and a future now rise anew as those who are pleasing to God. May all the lands and nations that have been trodden down receive vision and decide to live a new life as they turn to You! May all African peoples arise to see the nearness of the kingdom of God! Amen!
