[Today’s Prayer] 16-year-old Afghan girls detained and beaten by Taliban for violating hijab regulations

Last week, girls under the age of 16 were arrested throughout Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on charges of violating the Taliban's hijab regulations, the British Daily Guardian reported on the 10th (local time).

The girls, who were reportedly detained in shopping malls, classrooms and street markets in Kabul, were accused of spreading and encouraging other women to wear hijabs and make-up inappropriately.

Since taking power in Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban has further restricted women's access to education, employment, and public spaces. In May 2022, it was mandated that a woman cover her body from head to toe with only her eyes exposed.

16-year-old Laleh (alias) was arrested by the Taliban along with many other female students during a class at an English academy and said she was dragged into a (Moral) police truck. She explained that while other students who stood up to the police and refused to be taken away were beaten, she herself was beaten on her feet and legs when she asked why.

“With the Taliban taking power in 2021, I have not been able to go to school and now I will no longer be able to go even to the academy,” Laleh lamented. “I can no longer imagine anything for my future other than staying at home and getting married.” Her father later received a severe beating for raising an immoral daughter.

37 But he whom God raised up did not see corruption. 38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. (Acts 13:37-39)

God, we hear about the suffering of young girls in Afghanistan being detained and beaten by the Taliban for not wearing the hijab and attending academies.

Lord, everyone in Afghanistan is groaning as they have been deceived by false Islam.

Please have mercy on the Afghan sisters who suffer from the Taliban's oppressive Islamic laws and policies, and on the Taliban who are committing sins as they are caught up in lies!

We confess that neither Allah, the God of Islam nor any law they believe in, can ever set them free, but Jesus, whom God saved, who was resurrected without corruption, is the one who sets them free.

We praise the Lord, who receives forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ and who justifies everyone who believes in Him! Let all the souls of Afghanistan no longer pursue salvation through false truths, but rather look to Jesus Christ, their true Savior!

Afghanistan, lift up your eyes and see the wonderful salvation the Lord has brought for you! Run before God, who gives salvation to all who believe in Jesus!
