Officials said that at least 11 people were injured when a person with a firearm opened fire at a high school in western Türkiye on the 22nd.

The shooting suspect was arrested.

Justice Minister Akin Gürlek said on the online platform X that two of the injured were in critical condition.

The incident occurred at a vocational and technical high school in Turgutlu, Manisa Province. Local media reported that the shooter was a student at the school.

The minister said that the motive was not yet known and added that rumors that the student had been bullied at school would also be investigated.

Before this incident, Türkiye had been deeply shocked by two school shooting incidents earlier this year. The government strengthened security at educational facilities last week as the new school year began.

On April 16, a graduate opened fire at a high school in Şanlıurfa Province in southeastern Türkiye, injuring 16 people, most of whom were students. The shooter took his own life.

“Yet God is my King from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.” (Psalm 74:12)

Heavenly Father, we hear the news that a shooting occurred at a high school in western Türkiye, leaving at least 11 people injured, with two of the injured currently in critical condition.

Although the shooting suspect, who was a student at the school, has been arrested by police, please have mercy on those who were shot and are receiving treatment, as well as the students who witnessed the incident before their eyes and are still suffering from pain and trauma. Please completely heal their wounded bodies and hearts so that they may all return to their daily lives.

At this time, when everyone is deeply shocked by this incident following the two shootings that occurred in April this year, please help the Turkish government make greater efforts to strengthen the still-unresolved security of educational facilities, so that the people of Türkiye may live under the safe protection of their government.

May the global Church and the local Church in Türkiye pray together for the suffering people of Türkiye. May they comfort them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, so that those who did not know God may encounter God, their Savior, through the prayers and loving service of the Church, and become people who together confess that You have been their King from of old.

Therefore, may Türkiye boldly praise and proclaim the salvation of Jesus Christ, the King of the nations!
