[Field Story] Floods in Afghanistan and Pakistan... Dozens of people dead

Dozens of deaths have occurred in Pakistan and Afghanistan in recent days due to heavy monsoon rains that hit South Asia.

According to Reuters and the Associated Press on the 23rd (local time), the Afghan Ministry of Disaster said that heavy rains caused flooding in Kabul, Maidan, Wardak and Ghazni provinces. It was reported that over the past 3 days, 31 people were killed, 74 injured and 42 are missing.

In particular, in the Zalez district of Maidan Wardak province, about 46 km west of the capital, Kabul, 26 people were killed and dozens more went missing as hundreds of houses were swept away by floodwaters.

The state government shared that most of the missing people are believed to have been buried under the rubble of collapsed houses. Most of the houses in this area were built with soil.

Hundreds of square kilometers of farmland have also been lost due to the flooding and roads have been closed.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid expressed condolences over the incident and requested humanitarian assistance from aid organizations.

Even last year in Afghanistan, monsoon floods killed dozens of people and washed away hundreds of homes.

Pakistan, which suffered the worst flooding last year when one-third of its land was submerged, continues to suffer from heavy monsoon rains this year.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan, as a result of heavy rains, flooding and lightning strikes in northwestern Pakistan's Khyber and Pakhtunkhwa provinces, 9 people have died and at least 74 homes have been damaged in the past 48 hours. The state government has declared a state of emergency in Chitral District.

In the northern Gilgit-Baltistan mountainous region, a large-scale landslide hit a car, killing four members of a family.

The Pakistani government said the monsoon began on the 25th of last month and so far 101 people have died, including 16 women and 42 children.

I will set shepherds over them will care for them, and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be missing, declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 23:4)

Heavenly Father who loves Afghanistan and Pakistan.

We hear that many souls have lost their lives as houses were washed away and buried by heavy monsoon rains for several days.

We see that Pakistan, without yet recovering from suffering the worst flood damage in which one-third of the country was submerged last year, is in an especially difficult time due to this monsoon.

We ask that our Lord, who gives grace and mercy, would come upon Pakistan and Afghanistan at this time.

May the work of recovery quickly take place in the flood-stricken areas and may you protect the souls so that no further casualties occur.

Above all, beyond receiving humanitarian help, we desire for the Pakistani and Afghan souls to experience the help and guidance of Jesus, who is their Shepherd.

At this time when life is so difficult, may you let them hear the voice of Jesus who tells us not to be afraid or dismayed and comforts us that He will never lose us.

Therefore, may many souls be saved and enter the path of eternal life.

Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, may you guide Pakistan and Afghanistan to the right path and may you alone be exalted!
