The Washington Post (WP) reported on the 12th (local time) that the Donald Trump administration decided to end the protection measures provided to Afghan refugees after the withdrawal of US troops.
According to the report, Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS) Kristi Nom announced that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghan refugees residing in the US will end on July 12th.
In a press release distributed by DHS, Secretary Nom explained, “After reviewing the situation in Afghanistan with the relevant agencies, it was found that they do not meet the requirements for TPS designation,” and “The security situation in Afghanistan has improved, and the economy has stabilized, making it possible for Afghans to return home.”

As this measure puts approximately 9,000 Afghans receiving TPS protection at risk of deportation, organizations that help resettle them are protesting.
Sean Vandiver, president of #AfghanEvac, an organization that supports the resettlement of Afghan refugees in the United States, said, “The end of TPS is a political decision, not a reality,” adding, “Afghanistan is still under the control of the Taliban. There is no functioning asylum system. There are still assassinations, arbitrary arrests, and ongoing human rights violations, especially against women and minorities.”
He criticized, “The administration is trying to betray those who risked their lives for America, lived here, and trusted our promises.”

He is the Lord who preserves our souls and does not allow our feet to slip. (Psalm 66:9)
We hear that the Donald Trump administration will end protections for Afghan refugees in the United States as of July 12.
The United States says that this decision was made because the security situation in Afghanistan has improved, the economy has stabilized, and Afghans can now return home, but what awaits 9,000 Afghans who are at risk of being deported for this reason is the Taliban’s control, where human rights violations still exist.
Lord, the Father of the Afghan people, we believe that you understand the hearts of the Afghans who are not welcomed anywhere and who must tremble in fear even when they return to their home country.
Please let the Afghan people know that only Jesus Christ saves Afghan souls from death and that He is the Lord of love who does not allow Afghan souls to stumble.
Instead of living in a world that longs for protection and freedom that is not eternal, please let the Afghan people gain life and freedom through Jesus and enjoy true peace under the shadow of Your wings!
We also lift up the Afghan church that is fighting a fierce battle of faith under the control of the Taliban. Lord, please protect them every day like the apple of your eye, and may the gospel be witnessed through the Afghan church so that even the Afghans who did not believe can know your love.
For this, we hope that the prayers of the global church toward the Afghan people will not cease. May the global church know more about the heart of the Lord who constantly looks upon and loves the Afghan people!
So that the Afghan people, scattered among countless peoples, may become witnesses of the Lord to the ends of the earth and rise up as a people who prepare the way for the Lord’s return!
