‘Islam, North Korea of Central Asia, the president’s hereditary succession, surveillance and control, white colored country…’
Central Asia and the world’s frontier, Turkmenistan calls itself ‘a Turk-like people’ and ‘a true Turk.’ Turkmenistan, which is five times the size of South Korea and has a population of 7 million, borders the Caspian Sea to the west, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to the north, and Iran and Afghanistan to the south. 80% of the population is Turkmen, 10% Uzbek, 3% Russian, and 3% Kazakh. The majority of the population believes in Islam, and the evangelization rate is 0.0001%, meaning that 1 out of 10,000 people are Christians.
March 2022. The second president's son, Serdar Berdymukhamedov, took office as president at the age of 40, effectively establishing the hereditary presidency, and the president's strong control politics and idolization efforts continue. When the COVID pandemic broke out, the government closed the borders and controlled the media and the Internet, blocking communication with the outside world through a closed policy. Turkmenistan, which is rich in underground resources, provides low prices and utility bills, and low-cost education environments, encouraging its citizens to live moderately satisfied within the country.
However, the Turkmen souls, seeing their low wages and futureless lives, gradually began to look for new alternatives, and this became the driving force behind their focus on Islam. People who introduce themselves as Muslims but do not usually have a religious spirit and do not read the Quran or pray often, began to gather at Islamic temples to find new solutions to life in Islam as Ramadan fasting approaches, and they are trying hard to keep the Ramadan fast.
… If you can find even one person who does justice and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city (Jer 5:1)
Pastor J, who looked at the Muslims, said, "Many Turkmen souls are gathering back to Islam to find the truth, but as time goes by, they are caught up in a darker future and a spirit of lies, rather than the truth, and instead feel empty. When the Turkmenistan evangelical churches preached the truth of Jesus Christ to Muslims more powerfully, there was a work of Muslims meeting Jesus in dreams and accepting Him through the Jesus film." He shared about the recent Ramadan.
June 2023. God opened the closed doors of Turkmenistan again, and as the people of the Lord continued their gospel march toward Turkmenistan, a local church received the grace of receiving a church registration certificate from the government in January of this year. Pastor B, a local pastor, prayed about how to revive the YG and decided to send the YG of his church to the Central Asia Mission Camp held during this Ramadan period. We expect that ‘YG crazy about Jesus’ will arise in Turkmenistan, a remote area of Central Asia, and become the leaders of revival for all nations in the last days.
(Today’s Prayer)
1. May the souls of Turkmenistan, who seek truth in Islam, the spirit of deception, but feel even more empty, break the bonds of Islam with the power of the Holy Spirit and realize only the truth of Jesus Christ, and be established as God’s chosen people.
2. May the churches and Christians of Turkmenistan, established by God, become ‘one who practices justice and seeks the truth’ and actively raise up a gospel movement that strives to become witnesses for the complete kingdom of God to Muslim souls who long for the truth.
