[2025 Ramadan] Day 22 Mauritania, the water of life for the Sahara in 2025!

Mauritania means ‘land of the Moors’.

As an Islamic republic, it officially boasts a 100% Muslim population. It has a population of about 5 million, is located in the southwest of the Maghreb, and is geographically located between sub-Saharan African countries and Arab Berber countries such as Morocco and Algeria to the north. The country is made up of 30% Arab Berbers and 70% Africans (black Moors, Pula, Wolof, Soninke, Bambara).

Most vested interests are held by a small number of Arab Berbers, and as a result, other marginalized minorities harbor deep resentment and hatred toward the vested class.

In addition, the black Moors who lived as slaves were liberated in 1981, but they live in the lowest class of society and are severely discriminated against. These Moors live without any hope, being forced to follow the Koran by the privileged class. In addition, Mauritania is a strong Muslim country, and in 2018, the law was revised to impose the death penalty for insulting Islam, which still exists today.

In this Ramadan, many young people are wearied out by the reality of their circumstances, and because of their worries for the future, they enter into Ramadan without much hope. Young people are fasting less, and in an increasingly secular society, they try to satisfy their thirst from the outside world mainly through the media.

But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. (John 4:14)

Amen! May the hopeless souls of Mauritania, who are trying to fill their thirst with empty Islam and worldly things, be set free with the spring of life that will never make them thirst. We pray that they will encounter Jesus, the truth, during this Ramadan. As their zeal for Ramadan is dying down, may the Lord send those who will spread the gospel among all Mauritanian Muslims. Through the prayers and dedication of the global church, may the history of breaking all the bonds of Islam among the Mauritanian people begin!

Until the end of last year, a long-term missionary family, SMs and YTMs formed a church community and served together with local Muslims and multi-ethnic Muslims in weekly worship services. It was a worship community of grace made up of the MBB brothers who consistently attend worship services despite the persecution from their families, a Filipino sister who married Mauritanian Muslim brother but recently accepted the Lord, and Muslims from Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Chad, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, etc. who have accepted Jesus Christ. However, all the ministers have returned to their respective countries after finishing their terms. We desire that the Lord would raise up new ministers who would serve as the new wine skin. Please send holy disciples into the land of Mauritania who will lead Mauritania to Jesus Christ, who is the spring of water that will bring eternal life! May the souls of Mauritania who live without hope become the water of life for all the Maghreb and Sahara through the power of the gospel of Jesus! May all the churches in Mauritania rise up and prepare the return of our Lord!

[Prayer Topic]

1. May the disciples of Jesus Christ rise up in Mauritania, and through them, may the churches that even the power of Hades cannot overcome be planted!

2. We meet more Mauritanians who are open to the gospel than ever before. During this Ramadan, may the Lord help us meet those who will respond to the gospel.

3. Mauritania is in dire need of workers to harvest. May the Lord send workers to Mauritania from among the global churches to harvest.
