At 7 AM on March 21st, local time, a nation-wide, round-the-clock curfew was enforced across the Middle Eastern country of Jordan. Violators will be prosecuted and sentenced to one year in prison.
Jordan shut down all its airports, banned cross-city travel, and closed all schools, temples, churches, malls, restaurants, cafes, and most businesses for two weeks since March 15th, as the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country rise.
The new curfew is enforced 24 hours a day. The government said the enforcement of the curfew is valid until a separate notice is issued.
After the government announcement, hoarding occurred and anxiety in many people is growing. Jordan has a large number of refugees, especially from Palestine, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, who are poor and can only get what they eat day by day, so they have no ability to stock up.
Refugees and poor people stand with one plate of eggs and a pack of tissues among people who buy grocery carts of food. People stand in an endless line in front of a bakery under the rain.
Jordan’s Health Minister said there will be no more hope to control the spread of the virus if the number of people confirmed reaches passes 5,000.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
(2 Chronicles 7:14)
God, a national curfew has been enforced in Jordan. People who are unable to get out of the house are stockpiling with anxiety, and refugees who are living in poverty cannot do anything to provide for themselves and their families.
Satan is trying to instill fear in Jordan through a method of control and prevention, but there is no place to retreat to when faced with God’s Word. Lord, would you break the long-term darkness in Jordan through the prayers of the global church! May the global church serve Jordan even unto death.
May this be an opportunity for revival! Help the Jordanian people realize the sins of worshiping the false god of Islam for the past 1400 years. Help them to leave the path of evil.
May the people of Jordan, who are now facing circumstances beyond their control, humble themselves and pray to the only Lord of salvation, Jesus Christ.
We pray that the doors of the gospel will be opened to the poor refugees in this land. Let the Jordanian church work hard to serve the refugees with the compassion of Jesus and establish a true church.
Let the Arabs seeking asylum who came to Jordan, the King’s Highway, turn back to Jesus!
As Western churches like Korea’s and America’s, which were in comfort and abundance, face unprecedented levels of the coronavirus outbreak, may they cry and pray for other nations that are in turmoil.
Lord, we believe that through our prayers, the bondage of wickedness will be cut off, and you will give true freedom to the people of Jordan and the refugees in this land! Amen!
